DOWNLOAD/INSTALLATION ISSUES
CANNOT DOWNLOAD THE SURGE 2 FROM STEAM
- Run Steam and click Steam (upper left) > Settings > Downloads.
- Click on the CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE button and click OK.
- Steam will restart automatically.
NOTE: This process will not affect your currently installed games, but you will need to log into Steam afterwards.
THE PRE-ORDER DLC IS MISSING
- Run Steam and click Steam (upper left) > Settings > Downloads.
- Click on the CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE button and click OK.
- Steam will restart automatically.
- Right click on The Surge 2 > Properties.
- Click the LOCAL FILES tab and click on the VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES button.
CHOOSING THE GAME LANGUAGE
At the first game startup, the default language is the one selected under the LANGUAGE tab from Steam:
From LIBRARY, right click on The Surge 2 > Properties > LANGUAGE.
KNOWN ISSUES
NVIDIA VISUAL CORRUPTION
Random visual corruption on NVIDIA display devices may occur.
Please update your driver with the 436.39 beta version from https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver
You may notice lower performance. So please change your video settings.
NOTE: NVIDIA is aware of and working on the issue.
WORKAROUND:
If a visual corruption happens, save your progression at a medbay, get back to the main menu and reload your save.
PERFORMANCE ISSUES
Make sure you fulfill the minimum or recommended requirements.
Make sure your GPU is compatible with Vulkan.
Third-party applications running in the background (CCleaner Smart Cleaning, Overwolf, f.lux, etc.) can interfere with The Surge 2.
Please disable temporarily these applications and search which application is interfering with the game.
- Right click on the Windows Start button > Task Manager.
- Click on the Startup tab (click on More details to display the tabs).
Do not forget to restart the computer.
WORKAROUND #1:
- Run The Surge 2.
- Navigate to OPTIONS > VIDEO > DISPLAY.
- Check that VSync is set to OFF.
- Set Frame Rate Limit (FPS) to 60.
- Select BACK.
WORKAROUND #2:
- Run The Surge 2.
- Navigate to OPTIONS > VIDEO > GRAPHICS.
- Set Resolution Scale to 100% max.
- Select BACK.
WORKAROUND #3:
- Run The Surge 2.
- Navigate to OPTIONS > VIDEO > GRAPHICS.
- Set Dynamic Resolution Mode to MODERATE or AGGRESSIVE following what you want to achieve.
- Select BACK.
KEYBOARD WITH ONBOARD MEMORY
A gaming keyboard with onboard memory can interfere with The Surge 2 creating movement controls issues.
Please check the keyboard settings or reset the keyboard to factory default settings.
TEARING ISSUES
- Run The Surge 2.
- Navigate to OPTIONS > VIDEO > DISPLAY.
- Check that VSync is set to ON.
- Set Frame Rate Limit (FPS) to 60.
- Select BACK.
CLOSED BETA SAVE
Closed Beta save are not compatible with the game.
You can delete them directly from CONTINUE GAME or NEW GAME.
CRASH AFTER GIVING THE REWARD TO HAWKE IN SEASIDE COURT
Listening to the audiolog after giving the reward to Hawke in Seaside Court will make the game crash.
WORKAROUND:
Do not listen to the audiolog.
THE SURGE 2 NOT LAUNCHING
VULKAN COMPATIBILITY
The Surge 2 is using the Vulkan API.

UPDATE THE DISPLAY DRIVER
At the first startup, The Surge 2 will check for your drivers and see if they are less than three months old.

- Navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > The Surge 2 > bin.
- Select TheSurge2.exe application and click on the Open button.
- Select High-performance NVIDIA processor under 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:.
- Click on the Apply button (bottom right) then close the NVIDIA Control Panel.
RENAME THE AMDVLK64.DLL FILE
- Open Windows Explorer or File Explorer from the taskbar.
- Navigate to Local Disk (C:) > Windows > System32.
- Rename the amdvlk64.dll file to amdvlk64bkp.dll
THE SURGE 2 USED TO WORK BEFORE
- Open Windows Explorer or File Explorer from the taskbar.
- Navigate to Documents > The Surge 2.
- Delete the settings.ini file.
- Run Steam and click LIBRARY.
- Right click on The Surge 2 > Properties.
- Click on the UPDATES tab.
- Uncheck Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for The Surge 2.
- Click on the LOCAL FILES tab then on the BROWSE LOCAL FILES button.
- Delete the settings.ini file.
- Navigate to media-next > renderer_git > media > pipeline_caches.
- Delete all .pcache files.
- Close Properties then run and quit The Surge 2.
- Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for The Surge 2.
- Run The Surge 2.
THE SURGE 2 CRASHING AT STARTUP

- Right click on TheSurge2.exe application > Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program as an administrator and click OK.
B. Exclude the TheSurge2.exe application from the antivirus (F-Secure, Kaspersky, etc.).
To find the TheSurge2.exe application, please navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > The Surge 2 > bin.
BLACK SCREEN
- Run Steam and click LIBRARY.
- Right click on The Surge 2 > Properties.
- Click the LOCAL FILES tab and click on the BROWSE LOCAL FILES button.
- Right click on TheSurge2.exe application > Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check Disable fullscreen optimizations and click OK.
CONFLICT WITH MSI AFTERBURNER
- Open RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS).
- Click Add button (bottom left).
- Navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > The Surge 2 > bin.
- Add TheSurge2.exe application under Application profile properties.
- Set Application detection level to None for the game application.
- Close RivaTuner Statistics Server.
CLOSING BACKGROUND APPLICATIONS

GAME CONTROLLER ISSUES
GAME CONTROLLER NOT DETECTED
REGISTERING THE GAME CONTROLLER TO THE STEAM ACCOUNT:
- Run Steam.
- Click on Steam (upper left) > Settings > Controller.
- Click on the GENERAL CONTROLLER SETTINGS button.
- Click on the game controller under Detected Controllers.
- Click on the REGISTER button (upper right).
- Click on the Register to this account button.
- Click Submit.
The game controller is now registered to the Steam account.
Run The Surge 2.
IF THE GAME CONTROLLER IS STILL NOT DECTECTED:
Please unplug all USB devices except the keyboard, the mouse and the game controller.
Restart the computer and run The Surge 2.
WRONG CONTROLLER BUTTONS
This issue is related to Steam's Big Picture mode:
- Run The Surge 2.
- Navigate to OPTIONS > CONTROLS > PAD.
- Select XBOX, PS4 or STEAM from Controller Imagery.
- Select BACK.
GAME NOT SAVING
- Right click on the Windows Start button > Settings.
- Navigate to Update & Security > Windows Security.
- Click on Virus & threat protection.
- Click on Manage settings under Virus & threat protection settings.
- Click on Add or remove exclusions under Exclusions.
- Click on Add an exclusion > File.
- Navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > The Surge 2 > bin.
- Select TheSurge2.exe application and click on the Open button.
- Close Windows Security and run The Surge 2.
If Windows Security is not the default antivirus, please exclude the TheSurge2.exe application from your antivirus.
To find the The Surge 2.exe application, please navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > The Surge 2 > bin.
AUDIO ISSUES
UPDATE THE AUDIO DRIVER
- Right click on the Windows Start button > Device Manager.
- Open Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right click on the default audio device (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio) > Update driver.
NO VOICES OR VOLUME ISSUE DURING DIALOGUES
A. Some audio issues have appeared on various games since the Windows Update KB4515384 (September 10) for Windows 10 1903:
- Right click on Speakers icon from ther task bar (bottom right) > Open Sound settings > Sound Control Panel.
- Right click on Speakers (default device) under the Playback tab > Properties.
- Click on the Enhancements tab.
- Check all enhancements from the list (all enhancements must be enabled) and click Apply (bottom right).
- Uncheck all enhancements (all enhancements must be disabled) and click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Run The Surge 2.
If there are still audio issues:
- Right click on Speakers icon from ther task bar (bottom right) > Open Sound settings > Sound Control Panel.
- Right click on Speakers (default device) under the Playback tab > Properties.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Set Default Format to 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) and click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Run The Surge 2.
Otherwise, please uninstall the Windows Update KB4515384 until the issue is resolved by Microsoft:
- Right click on the Windows Start button > Settings.
- Navigate to Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.
B. Please check that The Surge 2 is correctly installed:
- Run Steam and click LIBRARY.
- Right click on The Surge 2 > Properties.
- Click the LOCAL FILES tab and click on the VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES button.
C. Please turn off 7.1 virtual surround sound:
- Right click on the Speaker icon from the task bar.
- Click on Open Sound Settings.
- Click Device properties for the output device.
- Click on the Spatial sound tab.
- Select Off under Spatial sound format.
- Uncheck Turn on 7.1 virtual surround sound and click OK.
D. The Surge 2 may not be fully 5.1 and 7.1 Surround compatible. Please set your sound device in Stereo mode.
E. If Nahimic application ( www.nahimic.com/gamers) is installed, please uninstall it.
SAVE GAMES FILE LOCATION
STEAM VERSION:
- Open Windows Explorer or File Explorer from the taskbar.
- Navigate to Steam > userdata > Steam User ID > 644830 > remote.
ORIGIN VERSION:
- Open Windows Explorer or File Explorer from the taskbar.
- Navigate to Documents > The Surge 2 > save.
THE SURGE 2 STILL NOT LAUNCHING

A. Generate a System Information report:
- Right click on the Windows Start button > Run.
- Type: MSINFO32
- Click OK.
- Click on System Summary (upper left).
- Click on File > Export.
- Click on Desktop (left column).
- Choose a file name and click on the Save button.
- Close System Information.
- Right click on the System Information report file located on the Desktop > Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder.
B. Send the System Information report (compressed ZIP file) in attachment with a description of the problem to [email protected]

logging_enabled = true
crashdump_level = Large
- Run The Surge 2 and reproduce the issue.
The game logs are stored in Documents > The Surge 2 > logs.
